Robert Joseph Neer

November 27, 1946 ~ May 17, 2022 (age 75)

Robert J. (Bob) Neer of Selma Texas passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at the age of 75.

Bob was born in 1946 in Detroit Michigan to Charles and Yvonne Neer. He grew up in Lorain, Ohio where he was active in the Boy Scouts. Upon graduation from Admiral King High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served as a jet engine technician from 1964-1972, to include a tour of duty in Vietnam.

Bob married Rebecca (Becky) Neer in 1968, and they would enjoy a loving marriage lasting 53 years.

After leaving the Air Force Bob worked various engineering jobs until 1981, when he merged his love of space and his talent in engineering by taking a job at Lockheed Martin Corporation in New Orleans, Louisiana. During his 32 years with Lockheed, Bob worked on both the Space Shuttle External Tank program and the Orion spacecraft, a vehicle intended to eventually send humans to Mars. His love for the stars and space exploration was only exceeded by his love for his family.

Bob and Becky retired to Selma, TX in 2010. He spent his retirement years playing golf with his son, woodworking, and taking care of his beloved cat, Millie. He most enjoyed working part time for Casino Fun, Inc. where he made many friends dealing and teaching the game of Craps.

Bob is survived by Becky, their children Phil (Kaye) Neer, Terry (Henry) Justice, Patricia (Eric) Shurden, and Sandra (Steven) Johnson, and sisters Kay Neer, Deborah Antus, Cheryl Krzak, Barbara Karasevich, and Becky Defeo, 16 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by both of his parents and his brother, Gary Neer.

The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will immediately follow at 1:00PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
