Betty Marantino

July 25, 1928 — June 11, 2020

Betty Marantino arrived in San Antonio, July 25th,1928, along with a twin sister who passed shortly thereafter. Betty departed June 11, 2020, weeks shy of her 92nd birthday.  Descended from pioneer stock who fought at the Alamo, she was prepared for a childhood during an era with battles of its own. After the polio epidemic caused school closures and a missed graduation, Betty and a sister headed to NY for their fortunes in the modeling world. Instead, Betty returned to her NY born Air Force boyfriend, stationed in San Antonio, and married him. Three children and a 66 year marriage later, Tom Marantino preceded her in death. Betty had retired from a life of service in public school, church parish and USAA offices as an administrative assistant extraordinaire. Her duties as a devoted military wife included establishing homes in the snows of Newfoundland, to the tropics of Puerto Rico, eventually settling back at home in San Antonio. Dual retirement meant embarking on cruises, square dancing, ballroom dancing, and deep involvement with parish activities at their church.

Betty is survived by two of her children, Steve (Cheryl), and Kathleen, three grandsons, and four great grandchildren. Betty has joined Tom and their eldest daughter, Ann Jeanette (Tom), who passed just months before her father.

In the interest of safety for all during Covid-19 the family is planning a private interment. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, with a Rosary being recited at 10:30am. Masks must be worn throughout the service and social distancing will be observed.  Betty's children will host a big Celebration of Life at a future date when we can all gather and share safely.

Given current circumstances, the family suggests contributions to your favorite charity in lieu of flowers .
