Virginia Fortin

March 8, 1919 — April 7, 2022

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandma Virginia Fortin passed away on April 7 just one month after celebrating her 103rd birthday.  Originally from Kankakee, Il, a small town south of Chicago, Virginia met and married Edmond Fortin, also from Kankakee in 1943.  After serving during the war, Ed decided to reenlist in the Air Force.  They were assigned all over the U.S.  Virginia especially enjoyed the social aspects and comradery of being a military wife.  She and Ed had many friends and were frequently assigned at various bases with the same people.  After Ed retired from Randolph AFB in 1967, they build a house in Windcrest.  Virginia liked playing bridge, hosting neighborhood parties, happy hour get-togethers at Randolph, and summer trips to the beach with friends.  She was an avid reader and usually finished a book or two a week.  Virginia is predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Ed; her son-in law Alfred Welch and infant great-granddaughter Monica.  She is survived by her three daughters Anne Welch of Renton, WA; Jane Taylor (husband Larry) of Visalia, CA and Mary Fortin of San Antonio.  She has four grandchildren Sharon Welch, Andrea Shaffer, Suzann Miller, Scott Taylor and three great-grandsons Cameron, Parker and A.J.  The family would like to thank Virginia’s sweet and dedicated caregivers at The Forum at Lincoln Heights.  There will be a private celebration of life at a later date.
