Victorina Contreras

November 8, 1930 — May 18, 2022

On May 18, 2022, Vicki was gloriously delivered into the hands of God by angels that rejoiced upon her entrance into Heaven. Born on November 8, 1930 to Aureliano and Santos Saucedo, she grew up in the San Marcos area, where she met her husband, Alfredo (Fred) Contreras, to whom she was married for almost 60 years. The year prior to her husband’s passing, Fred and Vicki were the guests of honor in a big 59th wedding anniversary party attended by many friends and family members. About a year and a half prior to Vicki’s passing, she reached the age of 90 years old and celebrated that milestone in a small family gathering in her honor.

As a florist, Vicki expressed her love for life through flowers. After her husband Fred’s honorable discharge from the U.S. military, they settled into Schertz in 1972 and opened Contreras Flowers & Gifts, a family business they owned and operated for 50 years. During that time, she made countless floral arrangements for all occasions.

While she certainly lived a long and full life, it was not without life’s challenges. Yet she handled adversity with great courage and fortitude. When the flower shop tragically burned down in a fire in the mid-1980s, she rebuilt the shop anew and continued the business right where it originally stood. When one thinks about Vicki a few words and thoughts come to mind – kindness and graciousness coupled with a strong work ethic and service. Vicki was a beacon of light for all those in her family and beyond. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and faithful servant of God. She was deeply loved and respected and while there are no words to describe how much she will be missed, she will never be forgotten.

Vicki was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Contreras, her son Alfred Anthony Contreras, her sister Evelia Contreras, her brothers Clemente Saucedo and Roy Saucedo, and her parents. She is survived by her son, Jason Contreras, her sisters Mercedes Soria and Helena Hedrick, and her brothers, Arturo Saucedo, Joe Saucedo, David Saucedo, Alfredo Saucedo and Frank Saucedo.

A celebration of Vicki’s life will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church in San Marcos, Texas, with a rosary to be recited at 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. A burial service will follow at San Marcos Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest.
