Shirley Whipple

Shirley Whipple, 78, beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and friend went to be with the Lord on April 21, 2023. She was born in Toledo, Ohio, on October 19, 1944. Shirley had a great passion for music. In high school, she was part of an elite chorus ensemble. She also purchased a piano keyboard, and spent countless hours playing/singing songs from Elvis to various country stars. In sports, she loved to bowl and shoot pool. After high school, she became a member of the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs, which is a society that helps out the less fortunate. In 1996, Shirley moved to San Antonio to be closer to her son and granddaughter Heather. In 1997, she started a job as a public transit operator for VIA. In 1998, she joined Amalgamated Transit Union, and became the financial secretary for the Local 694 office in San Antonio.
Shirley received various awards during her 16 years at VIA, including the VIA Excellence Award. After retirement, Shirley enjoyed playing her piano, taking care of her pets Beamer and Cheese, and attending her grandson's baseball games. She is survived by her only son Terry Whipple and wife Bernadette. She is also survived by her 2 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild: granddaughter Heather and husband Cody with (great-grandchild) Everett, of O'Fallon, IL, and grandson Shayne, of Marion, TX. She was preceded in death by her brother Bill Whipple and parents Cecil and Helen Whipple.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 1, 2023, from 5pm-8pm at Schertz Funeral home on Roy Richards Parkway. Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday May 2, 2023 at 10 am at Sunset Memorial Park on Austin Hwy.
