Rodger Houston Wein, affectionally known as “Pop”, of Cibolo Texas passed away on May 9, 2022, at the age of 78 at SAMMC hospital. Rodger was born October 4, 1943, at Camp Cook (now Vandenburg) to Joseph & Jean Wein. He was preceded in death by Joseph Conrad Wein (Father), Jean Camilla Wein (Mother) & Barbara Marie Wein, affectionally known as “Honey” (Wife). He is survived by his 2 children Catherine Marie Freitag & Joseph Michael Wein (Wife Charlene), his 2 brothers, James (Jim) Joseph Wein (Wife Beth) , Stephen (Steve) Case Wein (Wife Ginny), 2 sisters Teresa (T.C.) Ann Wein  and Barbara (“B” or Barbie) Jean Lofton (Husband Wayne) and his 2 grandchildren Heather Marie Freitag and Haylee Marie Bryant.

Rodger graduated from Pacelli High School in 1962 and married the love of his life Barbara Marie Brown on August 7, 1962. He then went to Belmont Abbey College for 1 year. Next, he joined the Air Force in 1964 retiring in 1988 after 24years of service. During his years of service, he acquired a master’s degree in education and went on to teach in the IT department  of the Alamo Community College District at San Antonio College starting in 1989 and retired in 2019 after mentoring many students in his chosen field.

Rodger was a loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. In high school he was very athletic and was inducted into the Pacelli Vikings Athletics Hall of Fame in April of 2022 for his abilities in football. While attending Belmont Abbey College, he participated in the soccer program. He then became a national soccer referee, football referee, and enjoyed coaching and playing soccer in his spare time.

After retirement, he grew his beard out, loved to ride his trike, visit the property he and his son bought and spend time with his family and dogs. He was very friendly with a generous heart and talked to just about anyone. He loved to wave at other cars while driving with a huge smile plastered on his face. During the holiday season, he enjoyed dressing up in his Santa suit and hat to take pictures with the grandkids and family. While teaching, he even used the “naughty” or “nice” sides of his Santa hat to give bonus points to his students before the midterms.
