John Malone, Sr.

September 23, 1935 — April 20, 2022

John David Malone passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 in the care of his daughter Brenda Nally and her husband, James along with his sons David (wife Madonne), Joel (wife Sandy) and son Shawn (April). He was very proud of his kids, nine grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.

John was born in Marion County, Indiana on September 23, 1935 and was one of 8 beloved children of Fern and George Malone. He is survived by three brothers from Georgia, Dick (wife Katie), Bill (wife Lynne) and Charles (wife Terrie), and a sister, Martha, from Alaska.

As a senior in high school, John moved with his family from Dayton OH to Perry GA. He was invited to play on the basketball team which won the 1953 state championship. After graduation he joined the Air Force, married his high school sweetheart, Marlene, and had three children. John thought he was fortunate to have been a navigator, bombardier, and pilot; he could never believe he was paid to do a job he absolutely loved with people he greatly respected. Cancer soon claimed the life of his precious young wife, and God generously blessed John and his children with a second wonderful wife, Marsha, and then another son. John and Marsha celebrated their 50th anniversary among family and friends in 2016. He always said he was twice blessed in marriage.

One of the most rewarding parts of his AF career was welcoming home and retraining the Vietnam Prisoner of War pilots. Retiring as a Lt Col at 38, he went back to college to study accounting and worked for Parr and Assoc. Upon retiring from a second career, he volunteered as marshal at Olympia Hills Golf Course and as a Bexar County voting judge. He and Marsha enjoyed traveling, especially on cruises, and they flew annually to Hawaii for a month. Over the course of his life, John was in 93 different countries. He was forever grateful to God for the friends and family with whom he was blessed.

In lieu of flowers, John requested that donations be made to True Life Church in Universal City where his funeral will be led by Pastor Joe Warren on May 11 at 11am. His service will be live streamed on You Tube at “TLC Streaming” for those who are unable to attend. Interment will take place at 10:30AM on July 8, 2022 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
