Gerald Friesenhahn

Gerald Louis Friesenhahn, 88, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on Friday, May 6, 2022.  Gerald was born in Converse, Texas on August 23, 1933 to Hugo T. Friesenhahn and Leonie Reininger Friesenhahn. Gerald is preceded in death by his wife Candace, his parents, his mother and father in law, Ellen Katherine Conrad Allen and John Harold Allen, his son James Neil, his infant sister and brother, Helen Ann & William, his sister Marilyn and his sons-in-law Dean Serfling and Richard Dogog.  He is survived by his brother Andrew Friesenhahn and wife Joyce,  brothers-in-law Mike Allen and wife Sandra, Richard Allen and wife Diane, Daughters, Helen Annee Untereiner, Rachael Ellen Friesenhahn and husband Jim, Carrie Friesenhahn,  son Gerald Allen Friesenhahn and wife Tiffany, grandchildren, Stephanie Untereiner, Bryan Untereiner, Laci Martinez, Gerald Friesenhahn, Bethany Friesenhahn, Cierra Evans, Benjamin Neary,  multiple great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.

He married the love of his life on July 20, 1963. In the early years of their marriage they danced beautifully together.  They also bowled in a bowling league together for many years.  He was blessed to be absolutely spoiled by her, but she was happy to do it. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage.

Gerald was the definition of a hard working man.  He served in the United States Army from November 1953 to March of 1956.  He then pursued a career in plumbing.  He retired from plumbing not one, not two, but three times.  He was a charter member of the Schertz fire department.  He headed up multiple remodels in both his home in Schertz and his home at Choke Canyon, among many, many, many, many, many other projects that he ALWAYS had going on.

He was a subscriber in the belief, you work hard to play hard.  His hobbies included hunting and fishing.  He made sure to instill proper hunting ethics in those around by treating the animals humanely and utilizing as much of the animal as possible to provide food to his family.  He was also very big on instilling proper gun safety in those around him.  He caught many record breaking catfish running trotlines in Choke Canyon.  He was even published in local newspapers a few times.

Most importantly though, Gerald was a devoted family man with a soft spot for babies. When each one of his grandchildren, and great grandchildren were born he enjoyed sitting and holding them for as long as they would let him. When they became a little more mobile he would use his nightly ice cream dessert as a bribe to have them come sit with him.  He enjoyed teaching his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren how to hunt and fish.

Gerald was a charismatic man with a contagious laugh and smile.  He appeared to have a hard exterior, but that melted away if you spent longer than 5 minutes with him.  Even though the world had almost 89 years with him, it was not long enough and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A Visitation will be held from 5:30PM - 8:00PM with the Rosary to be recited at 7:00PM on Friday, May 20, 2022 at Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. The Funeral Mass will take place at 9:00AM on Saturday, May 22, 2022 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Marion, Texas. Interment will immediately follow at Selma Cemetery #1.
