Frederick Hermann

September 7, 1931 — June 21, 2022

Frederick (Fred) Bruce Hermann , born on Labor Day September 7, 1931, passed away on June 21, 2022 at the age of 90 in New Braunfels, TX with his daughter Cheryl Becker and granddaughter Jeannette Martin by his side.

He was born and raised in Syracuse, NY.  In his youth, Fred did many things to support WWII efforts including collecting scrap metal, and working on a neighboring farm alongside German Prisoners of War.  Fred was drafted into the US Navy in 1951 and served proudly during the Korean War for 4 years aboard the USS Wren.  He was very proud of his service.  He would tell many stories of his time in the Navy and aboard the ships.  He was rarely ever seen without his Navy Veteran caps.

After returning to Syracuse, Fred had many jobs including a bank teller, a school bus driver for the North Syracuse School District, and a truck driver for the Nabisco Food Company.

In 1977, he married Eugenie (Jean) Tillman Ruebsamen.  They moved to San Antonio, TX in 1992.  Since moving to Texas, they enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends.  They were also very active in their church and community.

Fred enjoyed working on his model airplanes, reading and discussing all about the history of the wars of world and the US Navy.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Norman E Hermann and Gladys C Hermann; his wife Jean Hermann; son-in-law James (Jim) Hoy; and great-granddaughters Lydi Ann Henderson and Madeline Darlene Martin.

Fred is survived by his 13 children, Frederick (Lou Ann) Hermann Jr, Barbara Boessl, Teresa Hoy, Matt (Carol) Hermann, Meg (Kevin) Hermann, Cheryl Becker, Lydia (Dave) Norris, Robin (Michael) Schmidt, Susan (John) Henne, Debra (Mark) Ruebsamen, Karen Aboutcha, Joan (Mark) Samuel, and Richard (Honie) Ruebsamen; 32 Grandchildren, 55 Great Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Service will be held at Schertz Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at 9:30 AM. There will be a procession to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery following the Funeral where Fred will be buried, together with his wife Jean.
