Charles Saunders

Charles Michael "Mike" Saunders died on April 16, 2023. Mike was born September 23, 1939 in Rockford, IL, the son of Joseph Henry and Rose Frances (Guidi) Saunders. He married Audrey Joyce Williams on August 12, 1961 in Long Beach, CA. Mike retired from the U.S. Navy and the U.S. District Court for Western District of Texas at San Antonio. Mike served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years while in the Navy and at many parishes where he lived. He also did homebound ministry, hospital and nursing home ministry, and Stephen ministry. Mike also did prison ministry at the Bexar County Jail, where he was first to introduce ACTS retreats in 1996.

Mike is survived by his wife Audrey and his three daughters Michelle Sultemeier (Jeff), Andrea Saunders, M.D., and Jennifer Hernandez (Gil); six grandchildren Megan Sultemeier Young (Kevin), Ashley Sultemeier Erwin (Luke), Ian, Cameron, McKenna, and Grayson Hernandez; two great grandchildren Hayden and Elaine Young; his three sisters Rosanne Ewaldz, Kathy Graciana (Joe), Jean King and four brothers Steve Saunders (Lennie), John Saunders (Vicki), Richard Saunders (JoAnn), and Mark Saunders (Libby). He was preceded in in passing by his parents, his grandson Travis Michael Sultemeier, and his brother-in-laws Don Ewaldz, Jim King, and Roger Williams.

There will be a Memorial Mass held for Mike at Good Shepherd Catholic Church on Monday, April 24, 2023 at 11:30 AM

Burial services will be private at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
