Yvonne Benge

Yvonne Marie (Clark) Benge, 74, of Schertz passed away, surrounded by family and friends on Monday, September 6, 2021 at Northeast Baptist Hospital. Yvonne was born September 13, 1946 in Amarillo, Texas to O.B. Clark Jr and Gertrude Geneva (Wilkerson) Clark. She married John Gordon Benge Jr. on December 21, 1963. This love affair lasted for 57 years. Yvonne always stated her main goal in life was to be a mother and grandmother. She attained her goal and loved every minute of it. A strong woman, she was able to handle the stresses of military life, especially during John’s many deployments with the Air Force. She had to be mom and dad on many occasions.

Yvonne loved the Lord and was active in his service at Caps Baptist Church at Abilene, Texas and Crestview Baptist in Big Spring, Texas. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Schertz. A good organizer Yvonne served as President of the NCO Wives club while at Andersen AFB, Guam, and she has been employed as head cook at the Randolph AFB, Golf Course and Autumn Winds Retirement Home. Cooking, crocheting, Elvis Presley, old time country music, and Days of Our Lives soap opera were all things Yvonne really enjoyed. She had watched “Days” since the first show in 1965.

Yvonne is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Ronald D. Clark and Rex L. Clark, son John C. Benge, and great-grandson Jason R. Clements. She is survived by her husband John G Benge Jr,; her son, Darrell J. Benge and his wife Sandra of Waller, Texas; her daughter, Dana M. Benge of Schertz, Texas; her grandchildren; Patricia, Christina, Mason, Jacob, and Austin Benge and Shannon Gaertner, Kayla Clements, and Brittani Lindwedel, and her great-grandchildren; Lenore and Ramsey Gaertner, Asher Scares Hawk, and Karsyn Benge.

The Pallbearers for Yvonne will be; Darrell Benge, Mason Benge, James Lindwedel, L.J. Clements, Kyle Gaertner, and Isaac Leon.

A Visitation will be held from 5:00PM - 8:00PM on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. The Funeral Service will be held at 9:30AM on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Schertz Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
