William Gignac

William “Bill” Joseph Gignac lived a long life to the age of 91. On Tuesday, May 4, 2021 Bill passed away peacefully in his sleep at his residence in Schertz. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Sandy Gignac, his parents, Homer and Elizabeth Gignac. He is survived by his second wife, Dora Gignac; his son and daughter-in-law, Tony & Marianne Gignac; his daughter, Laurie Gignac ; his daughter and her wife, Pam Gignac and Susan Hear; his granddaughter and her husband Alex and Mario Vega; his granddaughter, Bethany Gignac; his granddaughter and her husband, Amber & GarryT Powell; his great-grandsons, Ari Vega and JaxT Powell; his stepdaughter and her husband, Dana & James Donahoo; his brother, Richard Gignac; his sister, Bernadette LeCapelain.

Bill was born on January 1, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan, but he spent his childhood in Canada. He proudly held dual citizenship in Canada and the USA. Upon leaving high school, Bill joined the US Army to serve in the Korean War. Upon finishing his service in the Army, he then joined the United States Air Force from which he retired as a Master Sergeant after 20 years of service. Bill was an all-star athlete, coach and recreational specialist in his work in the USAF. He continued to share his love of sports in his Civil Service work at Randolph Air Force Base as the Director of Moral Welfare & Recreation. In his retirement Bill served in the Schertz community government as well as an active volunteer at Good Shepherd Catholic Church.

Bill Gignac was a good man serving his country and community; and providing for and loving his family all the while remaining faithful to his bowling teams and golfing buddies!

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 13, 2021 from 5:00PM – 9:00PM with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00PM at the Schertz Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 14, 2021 at 11:30AM at Good Shepherd Catholic Church.

The Graveside Service will be held on Friday, June 4, 2021 at 9:45AM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. The Graveside Service will be live streamed. Please use the link below to tune into the service.
