William Thomas Cargo, Jr.

February 5, 1959 – June 30, 2026

William "Bill" Thomas Cargo, Jr. passed away on Tuesday, June 30 2026, at age 67 at his home in Schertz, Texas.

Born on February 5, 1959, in Nuremberg, Germany, Bill was the cherished son of William Thomas Cargo and Annette Cargo. As the son of a military family, he learned early on the values of duty, honor, resilience, and fortitude—values he carried with him throughout the course of his life.

Bill’s family planted their roots in Orlando, Florida where most of his best moments in time were with his parents, brothers and Son Matthew before venturing out on his own into the world. He joined the United States Navy in 1988, where shortly after he met his beloved wife Linda Cruz Cargo whom he has shared the last 36 years with. Bill and his family were able to travel the world during his career creating cherished memories around the globe. Bill served a distinguished 20 years of service in the United States Navy, serving as a Signalman abroad naval warships. His job consisted of truly having the watch over the ship and his service was one of his proudest accomplishments.

Following Bill’s honorable retirement from the military, he continued to serve through Civil Service before finally anchoring his life to the things that brought him the greatest joy which was ultimately his family and disc golfing. He found absolute peace out on the disc golf course, which was a place of tranquility and a sanctuary where he could be free and become one with nature. Bill was known for his warm presence and infectious sense of humor that could light up any room. He always had a story to tell from his countless adventures in life and could not miss an opportunity to throw in a “Bill” joke here and there. He will always be remembered for his gentle kind spirit and his undying love for all of his family.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Linda C. Cargo; his devoted children, son Matthew A. Cargo, and daughter Kristy C. Hill alongside her husband Michael E. Hill; his cherished grandchildren, Cedrick and Michael J.C. Hill; and his faithful, beloved dog, Chloe.

He also leaves behind his loving parents: William Thomas and Annette Cargo; his brothers and their spouses, Joseph and Tammie Cargo, Dennis and Ann Marie Cargo; as well as his sister/brother-in-law(s): Therese Candaso, Evelyn Lujan, Vivian Esteves, Guadalupe C and her husband Daniel Pereda, brother-in-law(s) Pito Cruz and his wife Cecilia, and Rudy Quinata Cruz. Bill's memory will further be treasured by a large, loving network of extended family members and dear friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his grandmother: Theresa “Nanny” Veglucci and brothers-in-law /sisters-in-law: Arthur Candaso, Elizabeth C. and William Quinata, Frank Lujan, Diana C. and Arthur Ulloa, Victor Cruz, and Santiago Esteves.

A Final Farewell

Bill’s legacy of laughter, service, honor and profound love for his family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him...May he rest in eternal peace. Fairwinds & Following Seas Shipmate, we now have the watch!
