On September 28, 2021, William Shelton Brister, born on October 3, 1931, left us physically, but will forever be in our hearts and minds. He was so strong in his desire to stay with us and showed everyone his amazing love until the very end. Referred to as 'Bill' by most people, his passion for sports made him stand out his whole life as an athlete. Golf, volleyball and boxing in his younger years, along with softball, tennis and his favorite sport in the end, bowling kept him strong and healthy. However, mother nature seems to have her own mind and slowly kept him from enjoying life as his body slowly gave in to Alzheimer disease.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Beatrice and his loving wife of 54 years, Peggy Jean.
He is survived by his sons, Bill Brister Jr. (wife Karen), Steven Brister, Michael Brister (wife Nancy), his brother Don Brister (wife Jeanette), grandchildren Charla (Brister) Salmeron (husband John), Heather Brister (husband Junior), Jason Brister and Michael Brister Jr. His great grandchildren include Angelina Arellano, Trey & Sophie Renteria, Kathryn, Elizabeth and Ian Salmeron, sister-in-law Beverlye Tafolla and his nieces Kim Thomas (husband Charles) and Kathy Lynn, Tami Tafolla and Traci Taylor.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.
A viewing will be held at Schertz Funeral Home on Sunday, October 3rd, 2021 from 2pm-6pm. Military burial will be held at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery on October 20 th at 10 AM.
