In Loving Memory of Vitalia S. Gonzales January 24, 1931 – May 28, 2025
Vitalia S. Gonzales passed away peacefully on May 28, 2025, in Cibolo, Texas, at the age of 94. Born on January 24, 1931, in Tinnie, New Mexico, she was the youngest of ten children and the last of her siblings to be called home.
Vitalia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Juan Gonzales, and all of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her six children: Dolores E. Gonzales, Gregory J. Gonzales, Catherine L. Speakmon, Michael P. Gonzales, James P. Gonzales, and David M. Gonzales. She leaves behind a proud legacy of grandchildren: Joseph G. Gonzales, Miguel C. Martinez, Juan G. Martinez, Andrea C. Gonzales, John G. Gonzales, Allison M. Minton, Victoria A. Salz, Mia A. Gonzales, Marcos L.J. Gonzales, Anna M. Gonzales, James P. Gonzales, and Guilianna Gonzales—as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who will cherish her memory.
A lifelong advocate of education and personal growth, Vitalia returned to college at the age of 50, earning her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics in 1983. She went on to teach for 16 years, inspiring countless students along the way. Her curiosity and love of learning—especially her love to medical articles and jounals—earned her the affectionate nickname "Dr. Gonzales" among friends and family.
Known for her quick wit, and unwavering resilience, Vitalia lived a full and joyful life. Her laughter and humor were infectious and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A viewing, rosary, and funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, beginning at 9:45 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church (16075 N. Evans Rd, Selma, TX 78154). Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
