Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Victor “Vic” M. Diaz Jr. on May 15, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 71. He was born in El Paso, Texas, to Victor and Margie Diaz. Vic is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Grace; his son, Victor, daughter-in-law, Sharon; his daughter, Stacie Diaz; and his grandchildren, Haven Mish, Madison, Gabriella, and Stella Diaz. He was the eldest of four siblings: Linda Garcia (David), Rick Diaz (Jane), and Rosemary Diaz. Vic was also an amazing uncle, leader, mentor, teacher, and friend to all.
A Life Well Lived
Vic lived a full and meaningful life, defined by his unwavering dedication to his faith, family, honorable service to his country, steadfast commitment, remarkable work ethic, and boundless energy. He enjoyed and cherished spending time with his family, he was so proud of all of them. Vic found joy in physical fitness and loved to run and workout. Throughout his journey, he formed many lasting friendships and relationships, holding them all close to his heart.
Military Service and Teaching
Vic retired as Lieutenant Colonel of the Army after 25 years of selfless service. Following his military career, Vic continued to pay forward to the future of the military, working tirelessly as a JROTC professor at Chapin High School in El Paso, Texas, and Alamo Heights High School in Alamo Heights, Texas. He was passionate about teaching Cadets leadership and life values; spending time inspiring them by setting an example and challenging them to achieve their goals they never thought were possible. The future of the Army and America is in a better place thanks to LTC Diaz’s commitment, dedication, and passion for his Cadets!
He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
A Visitation for Victor M. Diaz Jr., will be held at Schertz Funeral Home on Wednesday May 27, 2026 beginning at 5pm, with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary to begin at 7 pm. Thursday May 28, 2026, a Funeral Mass will be held at St. Monica's Catholic Church in Converse, Texas beginning at 11 am. Following the Mass there will be a procession to Holy Cross Cemetery where Victor will be laid to rest and military honors will be rendered.
