Thurston Bruton

Thurston (T-Bone, Doodlebug, Thurstyboi) William Francisco Bruton (17) was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on 23 May 2005, son to Mr. Charlton T. Bruton and Mrs. Maria I. Bruton and brother to Charlton T.W. Bruton. He was a senior at Steele High School in Cibolo, Texas.

As a scholar-athlete in varsity cross country and track, Thurston was also a member of National Honor Society and a recipient of a 4-year Army R.O.T.C. nursing scholarship. He received admission to Texas A&M University, Texas Christian University, and Baylor University. He looked forward to becoming an Army Nurse Corps officer, just like his mom.

Thurston was an Army brat and a world traveler. He wanted the opportunity to travel Europe again as an adult. He loved being a defensive player on all his soccer teams. He loved spicy food, sushi, cherry sours, and ALL the condiments, especially sour cream and Sriracha. He was a capybara and Minion lover. He loved playing Siege and building Legos with his brother. When he was little, it was all about Star Wars and light sabers and playing Army. He loved to claim his family member’s cozy blankets as his own and to be tucked in like a burrito. Once he grew up a little, you could often find him sitting out in the sun. He was a lover of fall, nature, and trees. He loved long bike rides with his brother and long walks with his dog, Britt. He was in the process of learning to love his puppy, Heidi. His love of music was wide, and he explored different genres. From Taylor Swift and Zach Bryan to Juice WRLD and Frank Ocean, Thurston found comfort in his AirPod-bubble of solitude.

Thurston was known as a little stuntman. He once rode his bike down steep stairs in Stuttgart on a dare and scraped his knee. He also zipped down a steep hill on his skateboard, bombing the hill. His adventures continued through Nerf gun fights with his brother and cousin, building up to fearlessly navigating ziplining ropes courses in Italy and Texas. While climbing Mount Everest was never realized, he went up the Zugspitze, Germany’s highest point, with his family and sled down smaller slopes with his brother. Downhill skiing in the Italian Alps and Garmisch-Partenkirchen gave him big thrills that led to seeking spontaneous trips down fast Texas highways to surrounding areas once he earned his license.

Thurston unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, 08 November 2022. This day will be eternally burned in our minds but will never be surpassed by the memories of all the antics he filled our lives with. We are happy to know that he will forever be a Texas boy.

He will be missed immensely. Christmas is his favorite holiday and future holidays will never be the same. He gave the biggest hugs and had the brightest smile. The way that he walked into a room, danced, and made even the most serious times goofy and light-hearted will never be forgotten. The brotherly banter he had with Charlton can never be recreated. That dynamic he had with his brother and the way they tackled the world together was special in the most perfect way. The bond that he had with his grandmother was built on movie-watching, hugs, and peppermints. The connection that he had with his parents was unlike any you might expect with a teenage boy: it was a Gilmore Girls kind of love with his mom and a middle-school-humor kind of relationship with his dad.

Thurston William Francisco is survived by his parents Charlton and Maria Bruton and his brother Charlton T.W. Bruton. His grandmother, Mary I. Calix-Ramirez, grandfather, Frank Ramirez Jr., and step-grandmother, Sandra Ramirez. His great nama, Jean Blenis. His nama, Sherry Bruton. Great uncle, Gary Bruton. Great uncle, Charlton Bruton. Great uncle, Gary, and great aunt, Marie Myers. His tia, Rose Rodriguez, tio, JohnPaul Rodriguez, and cousins Sebastian and Emma Rose Rodriguez. His aunt, Terry Ramirez, tio, Romo Gonzalez, and cousins, Alejandro and Sophie Gonzalez. His aunt, Felice Ramirez, uncle, Frank Garcia, and cousin, Cristian Garcia. His aunt, Christy Bruton, and cousins, Zahra, Iman, Ghazi, and Saif Ayala, and Sumaya Bruton. His step-aunt, Casandra and step-uncle, Cesar Estrada, and stepcousins, Caitlin, Cesar Jr., and Cristian Estrada. His godparents, Michael and Elsa Martinez. His girlfriend and best friend, Lillian Jaeger, and all of his friends that became family over the years. His canine buddies, Britt and Heidi Freja Bruton.

A memorial will be held at Weidner Road Baptist Church, 121 N. Weidner Road, San Antonio, TX, 78233 on Monday, 14 November 2022 at 1800 CDT.
