Sylvia Pierce

September 27, 1939 — November 20, 2021

Sylvia was born in Drexel, North Carolina on September 27, 1939 to Virginia Louise Branch Griffin and Alvin Griffin. Sylvia met and married Donald Pierce in January of 1957. They had four children.
Sylvia was preceded in death by both of her parents, Sisters: Faye Griffin, Cuvie Le Galle, Margie Behar, her Brother Ricky Griffin, and great grandson Hudson Vest.

Survivors include Sisters: Dorothy Prior, Judy Stoecker, Joyce Sanchez, Kay Sims who all reside in California, Children: Robert Pierce (Pam), Deborah Winston (Ken), Elizabeth Crown (James), and Laura Cohrs. Grandchildren: Misti Pierce Villarreal, Renee Masten (Jake), Crystal Crown Hathorne (Dustin), Jacob Pierce (Vanessa), Kyle Pierce (Kim), Darren Kutz (Carysa), Dusty Kutz (Katherine), Kristina Cohrs Beavers (Shawn), Kirsten Cohrs Vest (Taylor), and Kellie Crown; 18 great grandchildren, and numerous loving nieces and nephews and friends.
Sylvia will be remembered by her family as a great mom, and grandmother. She was selfless, loving, and gave her family a wonderful life. First and foremost, Sylvia loved her children and family and loved being together for family events. She enjoyed music (especially Ray Price), singing and dancing, cooking, and baking. A fond memory for her children was her taking cake decorating classes every Thursday, and bringing a beautiful decorated cake home for them. She enjoyed the holidays and especially loved decorating her home for them; Christmas was her favorite. At Christmas she would stuff her children’s stockings with nuts, fruits, their favorite candy, and another special gift she knew they would love. Sylvia loved to be silly and make others laugh. The grandkids will all remember the “goofy faces” she would make for them. She will be missed greatly by all.

Sylvia was able to overcome her fears and finally got her driver’s license the same year her oldest child, Robert, received his. After the children were all out on their own, Sylvia decided to take classes and earned her GED, a very proud moment for her family. She also took a typing class which was an additional boost to her confidence.
Early this year Sylvia expressed to her children a desire to follow the Lord in baptism. On April 25th, she overcame her great fear of water and was baptized by emersion.
Sylvia fought a long hard two-year battle with cancer. Today we rejoice in the assurance that she is in Heaven with her Savior, Jesus Christ fully healed.

2 Corinthians 5:6-8. Paul states… “that he is confident in his eternal destiny and longs for the day when he can be ‘absent from the body’ and be present with the Lord he loves and serves.”
