Steven Joseph McCoy, 61, of Cibolo, TX, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 12, 2026, after a courageous struggle with metastatic lung cancer.

He was the loving husband of Julie McCoy for over 37 years. He was the proud and dedicated father of Joseph with his fiancée Hani, Maria, and Kristina with her husband Hussein “John” Aldhaher, and cherished grandfather of Ian Aldhaher.

He is survived by his loving mother, Marie, his siblings, James with his wife Carol, Dennis, and Mary with her husband John Williams. He is also survived by his nephews, John and Daniel, and his uncles and aunts, Thomas McCoy with his wife, Priscilla, Ella St. Marie, and Frank Bossi with his wife, Linda, and many cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, John "Jack" McCoy, and his uncle, Joseph "Paul" McCoy.

Growing up in Revere, Massachusetts, Steve was a Boston fan when it came to sports, notably the Red Sox and the Bruins. In his younger years, he had a more mischievous personality and enjoyed riding his Camaro and motorcycle. Those who grew up with him will always remember him as funny, reliable, and wicked smart.

Steve proudly served in the United States Air Force for 21 years before retiring at the rank of Master Sergeant. His military service took him around the globe, including several international assignments such as the Philippines, where he met his beloved wife, Julie.

His career, combined with a preference for the open road and passion for adventure, led his family across the entire continental United States. Their most memorable travels were tent-camping road trips, exploring the nation’s greatest landmarks and national parks. They drove from Mountain Home, Idaho, through Pensacola, Florida, to his duty station in Anchorage, Alaska, and later to Pemberton, New Jersey, before Steve finally retired in Cibolo, Texas, in 2006.

He graduated from Revere High School with the class of 1982. During the expanse of his career and education, he achieved six degrees, the highest being a Master of Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 2006, and the latest a Bachelor of Computer Science from Park University in 2015, along with several honors and certificates.

Steve enjoyed the arts and literature, introducing his children to classics early in life, such as The Simpsons, Mr. Bean, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and The Far Side comics. He watched the extended versions of Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy annually and proudly wore a replica of the One Ring. However, it could never rule over the wedding band he wore to match Julie's; whenever she apologized, he would always reply, "You bow to no one."

He became a proud grandfather in 2014 and treasured every moment spent with his grandson, Ian. They spent time together weekly. Steve loved taking Ian bowling, teaching him how to ride a bike, and showing him how to fix cars. He always gave in to whatever Ian wanted to do, which meant countless hours spent on Uno and Roblox together.

In his free time, Steve enjoyed rock music and played his records in the house and in the car. During his last five years, he ran a YouTube channel and shared videos of his gaming achievements on several nostalgic video games. When he wasn’t beating his personal best records, he would post occasional videos of the family cats, Willow and Sylvie. Steve was staunchly against having pets at first, but he quickly grew to love all of them, including the beloved Mimi the bunny and Brownie the corgi.

His children would like to thank him for being a loving and reliable father and grandfather, for encouraging and participating in their creativity and education, and for his service in the U.S. Air Force. He was dependable and charitable with his time and energy and will always be remembered for making great efforts to be there for important moments, often traveling long distances while never showing a sweat.

A Visitation will be held at 10:00AM, with a Memorial Service to begin at 11:00AM, on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at Schertz Funeral Home. Interment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery will take place at a later date.
