Socorro Castillo Haines, 89, passed away in the arms of her Lord on July 28, 2020. She was born on August 11, 1930, in San Jose, Costa Rica to David and Graciella Castillo.
Socorro traveled to New York City in 1961 to start a new life. She built a business and met the man of her dreams, Thomas Haines-her Totito. They also lived in Florida, Kansas, Wisconsin and retired in Flagler Beach, Florida. In January 2015 they moved to Schertz, Texas to be near loving family.
Socorro was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Haines; parents, David and Graciella Castillo; sisters Betty Bendixen, Noemi Alvarado, and brothers Pablo Castillo, Francisco Castillo, and Hermes Castillo.
Socorro is survived by her son Salvador Lara and wife Jeri; son Fernando Lara of Miami, Florida; grandsons Eric Lara and wife Brianne; Rick Lara; Brian Lara and Angie Lara of Miami, Florida; great-grandchildren Claire, Wesley, Trevor and Colette; sisters Nydia Castillo and Teresa Gonzalez; brother-in-law Dr. Howard Haines and wife Cleo of Norman, Oklahoma, and many nieces and nephews and friends.
The unending care and loving friendship of Leyla Diaz and Veronica Lopez are most appreciated by Socorro’s family.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30PM on Saturday, August 15, 2020 in Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. A private interment will take place on August 18, 2020 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her name to The American Heart Association.
