Shirley Ann (Godwin) Delk, 86, of Cibolo, Texas passed away peacefully Sunday evening Jan.14th after a long struggle with dementia, surrounded by her family.
Shirley was born in Morven, Ga. on Sept. 1, 1937 to Shellie and Lois Godwin. She grew up mostly in Morven and Adel Ga. Shirley was on her high school basketball team and was the star player and received many trophies. This was a sport she loved and was very good at. After graduating from high school, she worked part-time at the local drug store where she met Richard Sampson. Richard was in the Air Force and after a short time of dating, they were married. They were married for 16 years and they had three beautiful daughters Diana, Debra and Dena, who were her Three Angels that she loved dearly.
After they divorced, Roscoe Delk came along and "two stepped" into her life, and they have been married 51 years. Eventually building their home in Cibolo, Texas in 1982. Shirley enjoyed being a housewife, a mother and especially a grandma. She was also a Mary Kay Consultant for over 50 years, and she enjoyed her gardening, camping, definitely shopping, going on cruises and gambling with her family and friends. And we can not forget that she loved her Spurs. And one thing you could count on, was her and Roscoe going country western dancing at the Farmers Daughter, Golden Stallion and at Martinez Social Club almost ever week-end.
Shirley is survived by her husband: Roscoe Delk, Siblings: LaDon Strawer, Patsy Godwin, Douglas Godwin and sister-in-law Sue Godwin. Daughters: Diana (Rick) Briones, Debra Deen, Dena (Paul) Szymarek, Shirley had 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents: Shellie and Lois, brother Hubert Godwin, granddaughters: Denise Junek and Deanna Junek Ruggs.
A Visitation for Shirley will be held from 5:00PM – 8:00PM on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. The Funeral Service will take place at 11:30AM on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will immediately follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
