Sherry Lynn Burch

December 10, 1960 — April 22, 2026

LaVernia

Sherry Burch, 65, of La Vernia, Texas, went to be with the Lord on April 22, 2026, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with a rare form of pancreatic cancer.

Sherry was born in Indiana, Pennsylvania, to Margaret L. Lear and Harold D. Lear. You would never have known she was born in Pennsylvania, as she was a true New Yorker at heart, having grown up in Buffalo. Her spontaneous nature, boundless energy, and signature sarcasm were unmistakable traits that defined her vibrant personality.

After high school, Sherry proudly served her country for 20 years in the United States Air Force, a role she was deeply passionate about. During her military career, she had the opportunity to travel abroad, including to Europe and the Middle East—experiences she carried with pride throughout her life.

Following her military service, Sherry continued her dedication to people through her professional career. She worked in Human Resources at Target on Walzem, and also held positions with Oracle and the USAF Call Center. She concluded her federal career at AFPC Headquarters in recruiter assignments, where her commitment, leadership, and work ethic left a lasting impact.

Sherry was a woman of strong character and deep compassion. She could be brash and direct, yet she was also incredibly gentle, loving, and selfless. She had a playful, goofy sense of humor and brought laughter to those around her. She never tolerated injustice and stood firmly against mistreatment, always willing to go the extra mile to help others—even complete strangers.

She had a creative and nurturing spirit. In her younger years, she enjoyed painting ceramics, and throughout her life she found joy in caring for plants and creating peaceful, welcoming spaces. Whether it was a carefully arranged “command center,” a backyard gazebo with ponds, or a cozy corner of her home, she loved creating environments that felt like a retreat. She also had a love for gadgets and technology, always eager to try something new. Despite often hearing, “Sherry, I don’t need any tools,” from her husband, it wasn’t uncommon for a new gadget to arrive at the door—something she had seen online or on TV and simply had to try.

Sherry was married to the love of her life, Christopher Burch, on March 5, 1981. Together, they built a family rooted in loyalty, strength, and unconditional love. She was raised Catholic and later embraced a non-denominational Christian faith.

Above all, Sherry was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was the strongest woman her family has ever known—a woman who taught them to love everyone, but to love each other above all else. She believed deeply that family was everything and instilled a “ride-or-die” bond that will carry on for generations. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering support touched the lives of everyone she met. She had a way of bringing energy into any room and a smile that gave comfort to those around her.

Sherry is survived by her husband, Christopher Burch; her children, Shawn Craig Burch and his wife Amanda, Matthew Aaron Burch and his wife Meghan, and Jessica Renee Burch; and her grandchildren, Clarissa, Matthew, Darren, Madeline, Cannon, Lydia, and Noah. She is also survived by her beloved fur babies, Athena and Cinnamon—who, as the family often joked, may have been just a little spoiled. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”— 2 Timothy 4:7
