Sergio Garcia, age 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 14, 2022, at his daughter’s home in Cibolo, Texas. He was born to his parents Juan Pablo Garcia Maldonado and Maria Dolores Ortega on October 7, 1936, in Zacatecas, Zacatecas, Mexico. He commonly referred to himself as the Huichol Zacatecano; the name of the indigenous people of his town.
At a young age, he would go to the theater to watch international films where he discovered his love for high end fashion. In his pursuit to become a tailor for fine men’s clothing he left for Mexico City and spent 10 years learning the art of making suits. In 1967, he relocated to Chicago, Illinois, where he would meet his wife Sila Garcia. Shortly after their marriage, they had four kids: Sergio Walfredo, Ana Maria, Juan Carlos, and Eduardo.
In 1982, the family relocated to Houston, Texas. Throughout his time in Houston, he served many high-profile figures. He would love to share anecdotes of his time with the late President George Bush Sr, several Texas Governors, City Mayor, Bishops, and even Juan Carlos, the King of Spain. Sergio achieved his lifelong dream to work on the highest quality of suits and become a sought-after tailor for his exemplary craftmanship.
Sergio loved family time; whether it was a large gathering or time shared over a meal. He also loved sports, reading, history, films, and his hobby of woodworking. Sergio set an outstanding example of the importance of family and doing the right the thing no matter how hard.
He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, brothers, nieces, and nephews.
A Funeral Service for Sergio will be held at Schertz Funeral Home on Sunday, August 21, 2022 at 2:00 PM, with a Visitation beginning at 1:00 PM.
