Russell Louis Foley, age 61 and a life-long resident of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on Saturday January 21, 2023, concluding a 9-month battle with cancer.
Preceding him in death was his mother, Yvonne Waters, along with his grandparents; David and Fay Jacobs and Eric and Abudine Foley. He is survived by his father, Windol Foley; stepfather, Thomas Waters; sister, Sharon Morales; half-sister and her husband, Michelle and Ronald Alt; aunt and uncle, Estelle and Peter Barnsley; nieces, Courtney Clark and Mikayla Alt; nephews, Ryan Clark and Nikolas Alt; along with many cousins. Finally, he has left behind someone who has been by his side and kept him company for several years, Chula, his faithful black lab, who will miss him dearly.
Russell was born in Peterborough, England on Oct 9, 1961, to Windol Foley and wife, Yvonne. A short time later the family moved to San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from Samuel Clemens High School in Schertz, Texas in 1979. In 1984, he received an associate degree in Solar Energy at Texas State Technical College.
Russell never married but he enjoyed spending time with his many friends. He also had a few animal friends along the way that were very special to him. His biggest love was fishing. He was an avid fisherman who was happiest when he had a pole in the water and a beer in his hand. Later in life he developed a love of vegetable gardening and was always very proud of his garden. He loved to cook his fresh caught fish with his homegrown vegetables. Lastly, Russell loved his San Antonio Spurs! He would jump on the chance to attend a game and always try and catch every game on TV.
The family would like to sincerely thank, Bobby Bice and Teri Dickson, who assisted Russell for the past several months during his final battle. We would also like to thank the staff of VITAS Inpatient Unit at Villa Rosa for their compassion and dedication during his final days. We know that though Russell couldn’t say it in the end, he was very grateful for everything everyone did for him.
