Roy Prescott Stuart, Jr., 85, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026, in his hometown. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Roy will be remembered for his humor, generosity, and unwavering dedication to family and community.
Born on March 20, 1940, in San Antonio, Roy graduated from St. Gerard’s High School in 1958. He married the love of his life, Margaret Jo Pate, on September 13, 1961—a partnership that would endure a lifetime and serve as an example of love and commitment to all who knew them. Roy proudly served eight years in the United States Air Force Reserve before building a long and successful career with Western Electric as a telephone installer until his retirement. He remained active as a member of the Southwestern Bell Telephone Pioneers.
A natural leader and community servant, Roy volunteered with the YMCA Indian Guides, earning the name “Yellow Hand” as Chief of the Southeast Nation. He also served on the La Vernia I.S.D. School Board, volunteered with the La Vernia Band Boosters, and helped initiate the baseball program at La Vernia High School alongside Coach Bell. Roy’s faith was central to his life, and he was a proud member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in La Vernia, later joining Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Schertz and the Double Ring Club of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church.
Roy was a skilled woodworker who turned his passion into a small business, Lost Pines Crafts, creating beautiful toys, puzzles, and jewelry. He also loved animals, casinos, and a good poker game—and he never missed a chance to tell a joke.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents Roy and Anna Stuart, and his sister, Ellen. He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret Jo; siblings George, Barbara and Richard. children Michael (Tia), Robert (Lisa), David (Kathy), William (Kim)and Crystal (John); and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
