Roswitha Franziska Hofmann

September 25, 1948 — December 30, 2025

Cibolo, Texas

The Silent Matriarch

Roswitha F. Hofmann was born 25 September 1948 in Reusendorf, Bavaria, Germany the daughter of Richard and Elisabeth (Kleinhenz) Hofmann.

She graduated in Großkrotzenburg completing the 8th grade and then went to Beauty School. She began her Beautician career at 15. At 19 she welcomed her daughter Barbara Anna Hofmann in July 1968. She was a single Mom but had the support of family. Never married, and never male centered. Her center and love of her life was her daughter Barbara.

Roswitha’s most notable job was a beautician at Wolfgang Kaserne, Hanau, Germany. Her clients were American soldiers, spouses and children. Sometimes working the graveyard shift stocking shelves at the commissary. The ramen aisle was always fun. A Go-getter and never went without providing her daughter the best childhood.

She immigrated to Cibolo, Texas in 2011, working at German bakeries and restaurants in the New Braunfels area. Roswitha enjoyed cooking German cuisine, baking cakes for family, knitting, solitaire, soduko. Along with lots of sweets! A natural green thumb she had a forest of plants when you went to her apartment on Berliner Straße. Spending time with her growing family was her favorite past time always down for an adventure small or big when she was able.

A smoker for 62 years she was a breast, skin, and lung cancer survivor.

The Silent Matriarch she was likely the quietest person you knew. Incredibly present, open, kind, and non judgmental. Of course speaking her mind when she felt needed.

She is the last Hofmann and last unicorn in human form. On December 30th 2025, Roswitha had her last breath with her Daughter Barbara by her side. Forever 77.

Roswitha was a member of Saint Peter and Paul Church the oldest Catholic Church in Texas located in New Braunfels.

Favorite Memories of Roswitha And What Made Her Special

Barbara – The best memory I have about my mom is how strong she was. She would never complain about any pain or discomfort she may have had. My Godfather would ask her “Roswitha, how are you?” She would always answer him with “I’m fine”. Then he’d would tell her “Roswitha, you could carry your head under your arm and you would still tell me you’re fine!” And she said “That’s right”. She was one tough lady and no matter what, she always put her family first.

Sebastian – Oma always supported me in whatever I set my mind on. We traveled to Mallorca together where I remember fishing for the first time. She allowed me and my friends to camp at her garden allotment and when her and Nina came to check on us, they caught us with a bunch of girls there. We were as she put it, “In deep shit.”

Nina– After graduating high school in 2010 I took a gap year. I went back to Germany and spent my time with Oma and my God mother/ Aunt Marianne. We enjoyed the holidays together and had many glasses of sparkling champagne. Lots of love a time was had.

Joshua – One of my favorite memories with Oma are from school nights when she would cut my hair upon request even if it was almost midnight. No matter how crazy the style I wanted, she always supported it. I usually fell asleep halfway through the haircut, waking up to her telling me to keep my head still “or I’ll leave the rest of my hair only half-cut.” She would take multiple smoke breaks in between cutting my hair but I never would mind much because she always made me feel so like such a priority in her life and was always patient with me through all my stubborn phases of life.

Remaining to cherish Roswitha’s memory is her brother Walter, her daughter, Barbara, her grandchildren, Sebastian, Nina, and Joshua and her great-grandchildren Liam, Anayah, Amelie, and Josiah.

Preceding Roswitha in death are her parents Richard and Elisabeth Hofmann and her sister Anneliese (Schneider) Himmel.

Funeral Services will be held 23 Jan 26 at 1100 at Schertz Funeral Home, with Deacon Juan officiating.
