United States RET TSGT Robert (Bobby) Allen Schmitt, 70, of Schertz, TX, passed away surrounded by family on June 14, 2023.

He was born on May 5, 1953, in Hammond, LA to Fredrick and Kathleen “Kitty” Schmitt. Bobby and Anita first met at Sambo’s Restaurant in November of 1974, and were married in February of 1975. It was love at first sight!

Bobby dedicated his life to serving his country as a member of the United States Air Force, traveling to many countries around the world. Later, he served his country in the Civil Service and went on to work for Lockheed Martin.

After retirement, Bobby volunteered his time with the local PGR Group (Patriot Guard Ride). This group is a volunteer honor guard used to fill out the ranks at burials of all veterans including indigent and homeless veterans.

Beyond Bobby's military and volunteer service, he was a loving husband, parent, and grandparent. He will be deeply missed by his beloved family and friends, including wife Anita Schmitt, daughter Camille Schmitt, grandchildren Blake Olivarez, Kevin Garay and Anna Olivarez, brother Johnny Schmitt (Pamela) of New Hampshire, sister Brenda Schmitt of Louisiana, as well as numerous nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews and extended family. Bobby prided himself on his family, often being referred to as “Dad” by everyone.

Bobby is preceded in death by his parents Fredrick and Kitty Schmitt of Louisiana, and sister Belinda Sue Buck of South Dakota.

In Bobby's personal life, he had a passion for road trips, traveling and visiting new places. His favorite road trip memory was being able to drive on the “wrong side of the road” in Scotland.

A graveside service with full military honors and celebration of Bobby’s life will be held on Thursday June 22, 2023, at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery, San Antonio, TX at 10 a.m. at the Assembly Area. Friends, family, and colleagues are invited to attend and pay their respects.
