Robert Mathewson

December 9, 1939 — August 23, 2021

Robert Mathewson was born December 9, 1939, in Glasgow, Scotland, and passed away peacefully on August 23, 2021, in San Antonio,Texas, at the age of 81 years.

Robert immigrated from Scotland at 17. He joined the USAF in 1961, and served 4 years. He then re-enlisted in 1966, and continued to serve until he retired as CMSgt from Randolph AFB, Texas, in 1989.

Robert graduated from UTSA as an English major with his teaching certification in 1993. He then re-entered the civilian workforce with the city of San Antonio as a health inspector. Robert officially retired in 2004 and enjoyed a life of retirement.

Robert was Scottish through and through. But his love for the US and his dedication for the US Military showed just how honored he was to be American. He was an avid “arm chair soccer player” and you could find him cheering on his favorite hometown team, Celtics, anytime he could get a soccer game on TV.

When Robert wasn’t watching soccer, you could find him hosting family and friends for cookouts and gatherings, traveling with Marlene to places far and wide to visit extended family across the US and venturing out on holiday across the great pond.

Robert is preceded in death by his mother, Mary (McPeake) Mathewson and father Robert Mathewson, beloved wife, Kathleen (Grass) Mathewson, brother Alex Mathewson and sister, May O’Kane. He is survived by his sister Anna Campbell, current beloved wife, Marlene (Graf) Mathewson, children Brian Mathewson (Staci), Monica Mathewson, Eileen Troncoso (Mario), Angela Schone (Ken), Debra Reasor (Kenny), and Christine Horton (James); Grandchildren Miranda, Amelia, Isabelle, Kiersten (Josh), Tabitha, Callin (Erin), Brooke, Cooper, Tyler (Emily), Mason, Brady, Senate, Scarlett, and 4 great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
