Robert Vincent
Dooling
Aug 9, 1938 — Sep 6, 2026
Robert “Bob” Vincent Dooling, 88, passed away September 6th, 2026.
Bob was born in Boston, Massachusetts, August 9th, 1938, to Thomas and Ellen Dooling. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, friend, and airman who touched countless lives in each of those roles. He was soft-spoken, but firm, and loved his family with unfailing conviction.
Bob met Janet Cave in San Antonio in 1961. They were married for 69 years, sharing laughter, love, challenges, and memories along the way. To Jan’s family, he was the Irish boy that marred the English girl. He carried the title proudly.
Bob was a dedicated United States Air Force Senior Non-Commissioned Officer, finishing 20 years of active service on October 1976, as a Senior Master Sergeant performing as an Information Technology Systems Analyst. He earned the Meritorious Service Medal (one OLC) and the Air Force Commendation Medal among many others. Completing his military service, he then embarked on his 26-year career journey in the U.S. Civil Service. He was highly praised for his efforts on the Montgomery GI Bill project in which his contributions directly resulted in savings of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Though he was proud of both his military career and his civil service career, he found the deepest satisfaction and happiness within the walls of his home. He and Jan raised 5 children, Roger, Bobby, Michael, Alethia, and James. Bob was proud to be “Dad” to all of them. He was the sole provider for his family, often doing 3 jobs, a duty which he carried out completely with both love and professionalism.
Bob enjoyed watching basketball and baseball, especially his beloved Boston Red Sox. He enjoyed simply sitting and talking with family and friends. Neighbors would find him sitting on his front porch. He always welcomed a short or long conversation. Easy to get along with, always appreciating a good joke, Bob was just Bob. And Bob was a great guy.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Ellen, and two sons, Bobby and James. Bob is survived by his wife, Jan, his daughter, Alethia, two sons, Roger and Michael, and sisters Mary, Helen, Joann, among many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Bob, you are loved beyond words and are missed. May you rest in peace, your struggles are over.
