Richard Louis Owen III, age 84, of Selma, Texas, went to be with the Lord on April 25, 2026. Born on October 27, 1941, in Del Rio, Texas, Rick was the son of Richard Louis Owen Jr. and Doris Friely.
Rick was a proud U.S. Army Veteran and an expert rifleman who enjoyed hunting. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from St. Mary’s University. Known for his love of poker and gambling, Rick’s passion led him and his wife Sylvia to acquire Casino Fun, Inc., which they successfully manage for over 26 years.
He will be remembered for his remarkable storytelling, wisdom, and the positive influence he had on those around him through his experience and example.
Rick is survived by his beloved wife, Sylvia Owen; his daughter, Brook (Derek) Lopez; sons Brian (Alena) Gallardo and Brent (Rebecca) Gallardo; grandsons Trevor Gallardo and Mateo Gallardo; sister Patricia (Steve) Smith; his treasured rescue dog, Sissy; and his extended casino family.
He was preceded in death by his son Douglas Clayton Owen, his parents Richard Louis Owen Jr. and Doris Friely, his stepmother Florence Owen, and his brother Robert Owen.
Services will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 16075 N Evans, Selma, Texas 78154, on May 18, 2026. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m., with the Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 a.m. Following the Mass, a Celebration of Life luncheon will be held in the parish hall. The Committal Service will begin at 2:45 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, where Military Honors will be rendered.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Rick’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
Rick will be greatly missed by everyone that had the opportunity to know him, for his life was a gift and his memory a forever blessing.
