Richard Lee Mashburn 89, of Cibolo, TX went to his Eternal Home with our Lord on Wednesday February 7th 2024 after a long, tumultuous struggle with Alzheimer’s. Richard’s prayers were answered to die peacefully in his sleep without more pain and suffering. With all memories he could no longer remember, he never forgot how to pray. He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his sister.

Richard was born to Otis Mashburn and Eugenia Andrews on January 1st 1935. He also had an older sister, Barbara. He didn’t have the ideal childhood spending a great deal of time alone with his dog. Times were hard during his childhood and he found himself living with a good, strong Catholic family having 10 children of their own. The house was small and crowded, but he was with people that truly loved him. When his mother was able to support her children, they were reunited, but he has had dogs for companionship for most of his remaining life.

His active duty began May 11, 1954 completing his two year commitment May 10, 1956. On May 11, 1956 Richards service time was transferred to the Army Reserve for a mandatory 3 years. He then transferred to Air Force National Guard retiring in 1978.

Richard spent most of his adult life working as a Warehouse Manager for Associated grocers, a large grocery delivery in Denver. He worked for them for 30 years until the company closed. He began retirement in 1992 when the family relocated to Washington DC with Norma’s Air Force position.

Richard was married to his equally young wife, Margy Sloan, on March 2, 1952 in Denver and divorced after 18 years. Together they had two children, Richard Dee (Chrisi) and Kathren Ellen Bettle (divorced). When he and Norma married on July 30, 1982 he became step-father to Denyse Lynn Anderson (Eric), Brandie Marie Britton, and Timothy James Britton (Erin). The combined families grew with 9 grandchildren, Cassandra Bettle, Heather Martin (Glenn), Justin Mashburn (Becky), Danielle Mashburn (Brandon), Ashley Alloway, Sarah Anderson, Kenneth Britton, Jayden , and Cody Britton. Richard and Norma have also been blessed with 9 great-grandchildren, Damien Paz, Madison Martin, Jacob Martin, Holden Mashburn, Cy Mashburn, Brooks Krinhop, Josie Krinhop, Dustyn Williamson, Jaylynn Williamson.
