Richard Joseph Lee, Jr.

June 20, 1964 — January 22, 2026

Richard Joseph Lee Jr., lovingly known as “Rick”, passed away on January 22, 2026, at the age of 61 in Cibolo, Texas after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on June 20, 1964, in Beeville, Texas, he lived a life marked by devotion to family, faith, music and sports.

Rick grew up in San Antonio and was an active member of Holy Family Church. From a young age, he participated as an altar server and later shared his musical talents by playing guitar during Mass celebrations. He graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1982, where he distinguished himself both academically and athletically. A gifted athlete with a passion for all sports, Rick played football, baseball, basketball, soccer and ran track throughout his high school years. His dedication and talent earned him a soccer scholarship to North Texas State University which was interrupted by a motorcycle accident. He defied the odds and was able to regain his strength to continue to play indoor soccer due to his perseverance and tenacious spirit.

Music remained a lifelong passion for Rick. He was an accomplished musician who played the guitar, bass guitar, as well as piano. Whether performing at church or enjoying time with loved ones, music and laughter were some of the many ways Rick connected with those around him; he had an incredible sense of humor. In addition to his deep love for family and music, Rick’s enthusiasm for sports never waned. He loved field sports of every kind and spent many hours enjoying fishing at his favorite spot “The Point” in Rockport, Texas as well as hunting in the Texas Hill Country with his family and friends.

Rick is survived by his loving wife Sonia “Sunnie” Lee with whom he shared 25 devoted years of marriage. He is also survived by his parents Richard & Lucinda, sister Michelle, and best friend Jose Lopez, whom he loved like a brother. He was blessed to be called “Dad” by his four children: Leslie Ann, John Joseph, Justin Wayne, and Angela Aime (Ana) and was fortunate to be a grandpa to 2 beautiful granddaughters and a handsome grandson. He will be missed dearly by his many loved ones, including aunts & uncles, cousins, brothers & sisters-in-law, nieces & nephews, and friends from all stages of life.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son John Joseph, his maternal grandparents Guadalupe & Genevieve Gonzales, and paternal grandparents Robert & Lorraine Lee. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society in his honor. His family would like to share a special thanks to Jena Richards, his niece, for her advocacy and facilitation of his care with Embrace Hospice. A Rosary will be held on February 13, 2026, at 12:00 pm at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, located at 2829 Ackerman Rd in Kirby, Texas. Reception immediately to follow in St. Joan of Arc Parish Hall arranged by the Catholic Council of Catholic Women, whom his family sincerely appreciates.
