Richard Hovermale

October 6, 1948 — March 6, 2022

Richard Dennis Hovermale, known by KBUC listeners as Jerry Dennis passed away March 6, 2022. He was born at the Oakland Naval Hospital, Oakland California to Chester and Margaret Hovermale. The family enjoyed the assignments and travel, but after their last tour of duty was completed in Castin, Maine they chose San Antonio as a place to retire. The family quickly settled in and Dennis completed his high school education. After graduation he immediately signed up to join the Navy and spent 4 years in the Navy as a radioman and diver. He returned to San Antonio and began his career in broadcasting and became a DJ with the local KBUC station. With his outgoing personality and fun loving spirit, he had found his niche. He later relocated to Florida to accept the position with Metro Networks as Director of Operations of the Tampa St. Petersburg office. After his 20 years of experience in the Broadcasting business and his success in Florida, David Saperstein, and the President of Metro Networks announced the appointment of Jerry Dennis to the position of Director of Operations for Chicago. Upon his retirement from the Broadcasting business, he returned to the San Antonio area to relax, work, enjoy time with his family and renew old friendships. Dennis is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister Cheslee Hovermale Inselmann, and family. We are so thankful that Dennis was part of our life. He is missed and will always be in our prayers. There are many people we must thank. We extend our praise and thanks to the better than excellent care Dennis received at the SAMMC hospital, all Doctors and nurses were excellent. Special thanks to Dr. cody Ashcroft and the staff for their superior care and daily updates. Thanks to the Sodalis Senior living facility in Windcrest on Crestway RD where he was given the medical care, the companionship, and patient care he required, special recognition to Kristy Graphman, Sirleatha Miller and staff. And last but not least we thank Elara Caring Hospice for their quick response and caring staff with special recognition to Beth Wilson and David Payne. A private ceremony will be held for the family.
