Raymond "Tom" Coons

Raymond "Tom" Coons of Schertz, Texas went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at the age of 79. He was born on February 17, 1944 in Richmond, Virginia to Ray and Kathleen Coons.

He was a small arms expert marksman, a graduate of NCO Military Education, had a longevity service award, a National Defense Service Medal, served in Vietnam twice, and received numerous other service medals and ribbons.

He graduated from the USAF Senior NCO Academy, NCO Leadership School.

Tom started as an Airman Basic, then became a Technician Instructor who helped welcome some 3500 new airmen into the Air Force, and helped re-write the Basic Manual Instruction Book, and retired as a Training Staff Officer in the Air Training Command at Randolph AFB as a Senior Master Sergeant on September 1, 1989.

After Tom retired, he became a volunteer at N.E. Methodist Hospital for 17 years, he helped with patient care to help free up nurses for their medical duties. He married his wife Sandi on June 19, 1995, and in his free time outside of volunteer work they explored all over Texas.

Tom is survived by his wife, Sandi Coons; his son, Steve (Tammy) Moffit of Schertz, Texas; his grandchildren, Matt (Manda) Moffit, Heather Baker, Robert Baker, and Brayden Moffit.

He is preceded in death by his daughter DeeDee, and his sister, Carol Barton.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 5th, 2023, at Schertz Funeral Home at 11:00 AM, with a Visitation beginning for the public at 10:00 AM.
