Ramona “Mona” Johnson Lynch, age 87 of Schertz, Texas went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. She was born January 24, 1939, in Eldorado, Illinois, daughter of the late Claud Johnson and Elaine Sherman Johnson.
Mona married her high school sweetheart while still in high school. Then she finished school to graduate from South San Antonio High School. That began a life where they moved as the Air Force assigned. So Mona learned to make friends quickly and easily. She didn’t shake hands. She hugged you. You weren’t just a friend. You were family. She was the kind of lady people didn’t just like, they loved.
Mona is primarily known for supplying most of her friends, neighbors and family with Tupperware or whatever else she was selling... Avon, Merle Norman, Jewel Park and more. She also worked in Hospitality as a waitress and server.
When not working, Mona volunteered. She did especially well in the Family Services program (now Military and Family Readiness). She was promoted to Coordinator where she received special recognition for superior work from the Sewart Air Force Base commander in the 1960s.
Mona also volunteered at churches she attended teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was especially proud of her work managing the bulletin boards for First Baptist Church, Schertz, Texas where both of her children were married.
Every Christmas Eve, she had one request: that her family join her for the service at First Baptist Church Schertz. Her wish was to fill a row with family. The family grew to fill 2 rows the last time she was able to go. Even better, they attended without her when she wasn’t able to go.
Mona was an excellent seamstress and great at completing puzzles. She was an especially loyal sports fan. She was the loudest fan at O’ Henry Middle School basketball games when her son played. Other favorite teams were Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs, Alabama Crimson Tide and Texas Aggies.
Mona was not a woman who stayed put when she had somewhere to be. Prior to cell phones, Mona used a CB radio as she drove alone 12 plus hours to visit her mother in Eldorado. She befriended “18-wheelers” along the route who “babysat” her the whole way. It was like a scene out of Smokey & the Bandit.
In addition to her parents, Mona is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Donald "Don" Lynch, many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and her husbands brothers and sisters that she claimed as her own.
Ramona is remembered by many family members and friends who will deeply miss her.
She is survived by 2 children, 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren and one exceptional cat.
Monas descendants include: daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Kirt Anderson of Spring; her son and daughter-in-law, Don and Lesia Lynch of Spring Branch. 2 grandsons and 2 granddaughters: Tim & wife Danielle of the Woodlands, Kenny & wife Jimena of St Louis; Kylee & husband Agustin of Kyle, Ariel & husband David of Converse. 6 great grandchildren: Vivienne, Vincent, Aran, Athena, Elizabeth and Diego.
Please join us as we share memories and support on Saturday, August 29th at Schertz Funeral Home.
Visiting and sharing will be from 2-4pm followed by a service at 4pm with Rev. Paul Robbins officiating. Her ashes will later be interred in a shared plot alongside her beloved husband, Don, at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
