Peter Heinz Lindner, aged 84, passed away October 1, 2024 in Cibolo, Texas. Pete was born in Dresden, Germany. By the providence of God, he narrowly survived the bombing of Dresden in 1945 by hiding in a bomb shelter near their apartment. Escaping from the Russian occupation of East Germany, he and his mother fled to West Germany in 1951. From there they were sponsored by a church in Buffalo, New York to come to America. They became American citizens along with his older brother Horst who came to America later. Pete learned English by reading the Hardy Boys mysteries. He joined the Army hoping to go to Japan but was sent to Germany, since he knew the language. Upon his honorable discharge and having received commendation from the Army, he studied at the Rochester Institute of Technology. After moving to Tomahawk, Wisconsin, where his mother lived, he met Dianne at U.S. Industries where they both worked. He was born again into God’s family at Berean Baptist Church in Tomahawk, and he and Dianne were married there in 1965. They moved to Milwaukee where Pete went to school and worked at Koss Corporation. Pete served in AWANA Clubs in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and then in Northridge, California for many years. Work brought Pete and Dianne to San Antonio in 1993. Pete loved wood working and made rocking horses and toy boxes for his grandchildren and others, along with many other projects. Pete is preceded in death by his mother Frieda, brother Horst, and grandchildren Samuel and Kathrine. Pete is survived by his wife Dianne, daughters Christine Joy Murray and husband Mike, Cheryl Kaye Bruner and husband Tom, and Susan Carol Windsor and husband Trent. He also leaves behind beloved grandchildren, Nathan Bruner, Holly Benson and husband Andrew, Evelyn Bruner, Annika Murray, Joseph Murray, Charlotte Murray, Luke Windsor, Zachary Murray, and Naomi Windsor.
A memorial service will be held October 11 at 11 a.m. at Believers Fellowship in San Antonio.
