Pearl Allen

November 3, 1934 — January 26, 2022

Pearl Allen passed away on January 26, 2022 after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Jessie Pearl Martin was born on November 3, 1934 in Santa Anna, Texas to Roy and Edith (Sikes) Martin. She graduated as valedictorian from Brookesmith High School in 1953 with a perfect attendance record. She went to Draughon Business College in Abilene, Texas. After working many jobs, she went to work for Magnolia Oil Company. In August, 1957 while attending a Sunday School party, she met Airman Bobby Allen, who was stationed at Dyess Air Force Base, in Abilene, Texas. They married February 1, 1958.

Pearl and Bobby were blessed with two daughters, Debra Jean and Betty Sue. Pearl attended San Antonio College and graduated from University of Texas at San Antonio, receiving her degree and teaching certification. She enjoyed teaching English at Terrell Wells Middle School, where she served for twenty years.

After she and Bobby retired, they traveled to all 50 states. They sold their home and traveled in a fifth-wheel trailer for several years. She loved playing games with family and friends. Her two favorite games were Forty Two (a domino game) and Hand and Foot (a card game). She often won tournaments playing Forty Two.

Living a Christian life was very important to Pearl. She had a wonderful relationship with her Savior and was actively involved in church work. She served in the Auxiliary of the Gideons International and together with Bobby, gave away Bibles and told others of the love of Jesus. While in rehabilitation centers and nursing homes during the last months of her life, she and Bobby offered Bibles to all staff members and visitors.

Pearl died with Bobby by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Edith Martin and her brother Joseph Franklin Martin. She is survived by her husband of nearly 64 years Bobby Allen of Universal City, Texas; her sister Linda Robinson of Ft. Worth, Texas; daughter Debra Moody and her husband John, of Universal City; daughter Betty Moore and her husband Steven of Sugar Land, Texas; grandchildren Crystal Bentley and her husband George, Robert Moody and his wife Kayla, Kelsey Hodde and her husband Joshua, Kaitlin Bardin and her husband Ellis, Bethany Allen and her husband Ryan, Thomas Moody and his wife Kourtney; fifteen great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Mable Allen Gandy of Alabama; brother-in-law Wayne Allen and his wife Tina of Alabama; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pearl was dearly loved and will be missed by everyone who knew her.
