Oscar Elwood Glover

June 12, 1937 — January 17, 2025

Oscar Elwood (“O.E.”) Glover, Sr. of San Antonio, Texas passed away at Silver Tree Nursing and Rehabilitation on Friday, January 17, 2025 at the age of 87 years.

Oscar was born June 12, 1937 at his childhood home in Irving, Texas to parents Isaac Glen Glover and Cora Elizabeth Glover. He grew up one of 9 brothers and sisters in what was once rural Irving. He loved to fish in the creek down the hill from their home.

He went to school in Irving, joining the service as a young man. He was trained as a U.S Naval Aviation Mechanic where he served honorably. He transitioned to civilian life as an aviation mechanic at Love Field in Dallas, then odd jobs; but settled in the auto industry. He retired in 1988 in San Antonio, Texas as an executive of Subaru of America, Inc.

He bought a chicken farm in beautiful Mena, Arkansas where he enjoyed a leisurely retirement of farming, golfing, visiting with family, and fishing. After fifteen years, he came back to San Antonio to be near his kids and dear friends, where he served as First Vice Commander at American Legion Post 667 in Universal City, Texas. He continued to enjoy a leisurely life golfing, dancing, camping, spending time with family, and fishing. He was an avid reader until the end—the paper, magazines, and one or two historical fiction or nonfiction novels a week.

Though a quiet man, Oscar “O.E.” was usually the life of a party. He could always find a laugh or a story to tell--his wink and smile lit up the room. He is survived by beloved family including three children, their significant others and their family (Kathy and Brad Murdock; Oscar “Skeeter” Glover, Jr and Sandy Ward; Paul and Liz Glover), granddaughter (Kristie and Brian Eglsaer), one great grandson (Henry Eglsaer); numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by an older brother (Ed Glover), two younger sisters (Patricia E. Tuomi and Elizabeth Glover Corry), many nieces, nephews, family friends and loved ones.

He will receive Military Funeral Honors in a service at Fort Sam Houston on Friday, February 14, 2025, 11:00 a.m. followed by lunch at American Legion Post 667 to celebrate his life, family, and friends.

In lieu of flowers: read a book, go dancing, enjoy dining out, play golf, go fishing. He would join you if he could.
