Orpha Dove Ford of Schertz, Texas (formerly of Austin and Canyon Lake) passed away on December 26, 2007. She was born in Idabelle, Oklahoma on October 7, 1915. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Arno, her parents, Fred and Madge Holman, her brother, Wayford Holman, and her sister, Inez Donelson. Orpha attended school in Amarillo, Texas where she met Arno Aldean Ford. They wed in January, 1935 and were married 54 years at the time of his death. They were blessed with three children, Patricia Lund, Helen Neilson and Jim Ford. Orpha and Arno lived in Albuquerque, Santa Fe and El Paso. Prior to retirement, Orpha worked in retail sales and banking. She was a member of numerous organizations. Upon retirement, Orpha and Arno became full time RVers and traveled throughout the United States before settling in Canyon Lake. In 1999, Orpha moved to Austin and ultimately to Schertz, where she resided with her daughter and son in law, Pat and Orv. She was an avid gardener and grew prize-winning roses. Orpha loved playing bridge, sewing, needlework, cooking and had a talent for ceramics. Her greatest passion was her love of family. She was a faithful Christian and attended Christ the King Lutheran Church. Orpha was a strong, loving and generous lady who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Left behind to cherish her memories are her children, Patricia and her husband, Orv, Helen, Jim and his wife, Linda; grandchildren, Paula (Billy) Rudisill, Sharon (Dale) Damn, Jim Tyra, Lee Ann (G.E.) Smith, Renee Neilson, Billy (Doris) Neilson, Denise (Shayne) Currin, Rob (Jennifer) Fannon, Stephen Ford, and Meredith Ford, twenty great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM " 9:00 PM (with the family receiving friends from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM on Thursday, January 3, 2008 at Schertz Funeral Home in Schertz, Texas. Funeral Services will be held 11:30 AM on Friday, January 4, 2008 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Universal City, Texas. Burial will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Donations may be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.
