Ok Hyon Dawsey

Ok Hyon “Jeannie” Dawsey, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her Cibolo, Texas home on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at the age of 82.

Ok Hyon Kim, born to Sun Han Chang and Yong An Kim in Taegu, Korea on March 7, 1942, married Michael Herman Dawsey in 1969 and moved to the United States. Ok Hyon worked and managed dining halls, where she learned to cook all her family’s favorite recipes.

After retiring, Ok Hyon and Michael Dawsey built a business together that thrived for decades. Her family cherishes memories of visiting and helping out at the store. Ok Hyon’s love for her family will endure as they share stories of the loving, funny, hard-working, and strong woman she was.

Ok Hyon was predeceased by her husband, Michael Dawsey. Her memory will be cherished by her children: Mi Hyang Bolles (Al), Yong Pom Dawsey (Emerlita), Philip E. Dawsey (Angelia), and Christine R. Castaneda. She leaves behind her grandchildren: Thomas “Alex” Dawsey (Rashell), Michaele Bolles, Nicholas Bolles, Sabrina Castaneda, Quinn Dawsey (Morgan), Lillian Castaneda, Christopher “Topher” Dawsey, and Taniya Castaneda; and four great-grandchildren: Railey, Raif, Emma, and Rex.

Services to honor and celebrate the life of Ok Hyon Dawsey will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. at Schertz Funeral Home, located at 2217 FM 3009, Schertz, TX 78154. Followed by services at 2:30 p.m. at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, located at 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, TX 78209.

Ok Hyon will be deeply missed, but her legacy will forever blossom in the hearts of those she touched.
