Norma Jean Baker

Our mother, Norma Jean Baker "Mamaw", was born December 15, 1929 in Louisville, IL and passed away on October 31, 2023 in Converse, Texas at the age of 93 in her sleep, just as she had always prayed she would. Norma was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, James E. Baker; her mother, Melissa Evelyn Muesing; sister, Lois Muesing; sister-in-law, Betty Shafer and brother-in-law, Jerry Shafer, sister-in-law, Mary Margaret Miebach and brother-in-law, Gene Miebach; as well as many aunts and uncles.

She is survived by her children, James Baker, Sharon Mercer with husband Kenneth Mercer; three grandchildren, Sandra Mercer - Ayala with spouse Stephen Ayala, Philip Mercer with spouse Ashley Mercer, Ryan Mercer with spouse Ashley Mercer; six great grandchildren, Chandler Ayala, Austin Ayala, Madison Mercer, Kash Mercer, Knox Mercer and Kollins Mercer; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition, her grand pups, Duncan, Lexie, Khloe and Pixie whom she loved.

She was married to the love of her life, James E. Baker, Sr., August 7, 1948, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Champaign, Illinois. She graduated from Champaign Central High School and worked for Illinois Bell / AT&T in Management as an Operator Supervisor for 35 years. Mom and dad moved to Schertz, Texas in 1984 when they retired, to be with family.

Norma loved being with her family. She was a very kind and generous person who always thought of others before herself.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 09, 2023 from 5:00PM - 7:00PM, with Memorial Service beginning at 7:00PM, at Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. There will be a private family burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Hope Hospice of New Braunfels, 611 N Walnut Ave, New Braunfels, Texas 78130.
