Nicholas P. Houhoulis, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and public servant, passed away peacefully at home on 1/27/2026, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, integrity, and love for his family.
Born to the late Peter and Elizabeth Houhoulis, Nick lived a life marked by commitment to professionalism, his community, and those he held dear. Nick was a graduate of Andover High School and Nichols College, both in Massachusetts. He married his beloved wife, Joan, and enjoyed a long and laughter-filled partnership of 50 years built on loyalty, respect, an appreciation for quirkiness, and deep family devotion.
His professional career reflected his strong work ethic, sense of responsibility, boundless optimism, and an appreciation for new and different opportunities. Nick spent time in the food and beverage industry, including in casinos and high-end hotels. He later dedicated years of service to law enforcement as a New Hampshire State Liquor Investigator, where he was respected for his professionalism and commitment to public safety and the law. Long after his own children were grown, Nick continued to referee soccer games and coach kids’ sports, a well-known face in the community who could never go anywhere without finding someone to talk to. But the most important job he had was being a grandpa, a role adored.
Nick is survived by his loving wife, his children, and his cherished grandchildren, who brought him great pride and joy. Nick is also survived by his siblings.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Dr. Bradley McGregor and the rest of the Lank Center team at Dana Farber. Nick was so proud and grateful for the opportunity to participate in Dr. McGregor’s research and trials. We are forever grateful for the additional good years that Nick was able to travel, play pickleball, and create memories with his grandchildren. There could never be enough time, but we are so grateful for the extra five years we were gifted and the team who supported Nick and Joan.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. No formal ceremonies or gatherings are planned. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Dr. McGregor and his team at https://danafarber.jimmyfund.org/site/TR?team_id=7172&fr_id=1200&pg=team.
Nick will be remembered for his quiet strength, sense of humor, dedication to service, and unwavering love for his family. His life was one of purpose and commitment, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Nick would often say it was better to be lucky than good, but for those who knew him, he was both.
