Nicholas Paul Bedson

April 22, 1981 — August 3, 2023

San Antonio

The world is a little dimmer since a bright star - Nicholas Bedson was taken from us in a tragic accident on Thursday, August 3, 2023.  Nick was a loving husband and father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend to all.  He was creative, witty, quirky, funny and had an infectious smile!

He was born in Athens, Greece on April 22, 1981 to Fred and Julie Bridges Bedson.  He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Rios and their two children, Victoria and Jonathan.  He is also survived by his older brother Kristopher and sister Shannon.  Survivors also include his sister Jill from Julie’s second marriage, and from Fred and Paula Beckman Bedson, his youngest brother Taylor. There are numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, and nieces from the extended family.

Nick was born on Earth Day and he always had a passion for nature and wildlife.  He had a lifelong love for his “spirit animal”, penguins, after he portrayed one in a kindergarten class play.  He also loved astronomy and star gazing with his telescope. He loved to read, especially science fiction, and like much of the family he was a Star Wars fanatic.  Ewoks were his favorite!  One of his first jobs was with Toys R Us (which is where he met Jacqueline Rios, the love of his life) and it was a good fit for him since he was a kid at heart and always kept his child-like sense of wonder and playfulness, especially with his children and nephews. Nick loved music, movies, and family games.  He had always dreamed of having a motorcycle and bought one in 2022.  He enjoyed hill country rides with his childhood friends and new friends he made on the road.

He graduated from Judson High School in 1999.  His original ambition was to be a marine biologist.  He briefly attended Texas A&M Corpus Christi.  He took a break to work, then changed his direction to digital and media platforms, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts from UTSA in 2014.

Nick and Jackie were married on September 8, 2012 and welcomed daughter Victoria (Tori) in 2015 and Jonathan (JJ) in 2017.  Nick was welcomed with open arms by Jackie’s parents, Marcos and Emma Rios, as well as all of the Rios family.  It was as if he had been a part of their family from day one.  He quickly grew close to all of them and joined in a family trip to Vienna, Austria to celebrate their shared faith for the ordination of Jackie’s brother, Father Marcos Rios.  Family get-togethers were many, but one of the most favorite was New Year’s Eve.  Families and friends gathered to behold firework celebrations that rivaled any professional display!

Nick celebrated his 42nd birthday this year. He had so much more life to live! He will be greatly missed by his wife, daughter, and son.  Please join parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, and many friends and family members in prayer for him and for all who miss him terribly.

Visitation will be at Schertz Funeral Home, 2217 FM 3009, Schertz, TX 78154 on Tuesday, August 15 at 6 pm and the rosary will begin at 7 pm.
