Nelda Merle Warford

November 7, 1937 — June 4, 2023

Schertz

Nelda Crisp Warford of Schertz, Texas passed away peacefully on June 4th, 2023, after a lengthy illness.  Nelda was married to the love of her life Michael Lynn Warford, on Valentine’s Day 1976 on the Bexar County Court House steps.   Michael was an US Air Force Senior Master Sargent and they soon moved to the duty station in Oslo, Norway.  Nelda found that she loved the cold of northern Europe, and they loved traveling all over Europe.

Nelda was born on November 7th, 1937, in Bluntzer, Texas just outside of Corpus Christi.  She was the baby of a blended family.  Her father, Alexander and wife Lela had six children: Wallace, Pete, D.C., Paul, Lee, and Aliene.  Lela tragically passed away from complications during Aliene’s birth on September 19, 1924.  A couple of years later, Lillie Gray married Alexander the story being that she felt so sorry for the kids and especially the youngest, Aliene as she could never get her shoes on the correct foot.

Alexander and Lillie had five children: Jerrell, Ada Marie, Marcus (Tinker), Floy, and Nelda.  Nelda was the last surviving member of eleven siblings.

Nelda is survived by her stepdaughter, Ginnie Funderburk (Mark) and granddaughter Nikki of Kennedale, Texas.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Nelda and Mike’s baking and cooking skills were legendary and were extra generous with their delicious birthday cakes and holiday candies, cookies, and other goodies.  Anyone on the receiving end of these wonderful goodies truly relish the memory of those yummy treats.

Special thanks to Nelda’s kind and caring neighbors Bobbie & Jessie Castillo, Diane Vargas and so many others.

Nelda will be buried along with Mike at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on June 30th, at 1:30pm.
