Monique J. Kobes

January 17, 1939 — December 25, 2025

Cibolo, Texas

Monique Jacquline Kobes, age 86, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2025, surrounded by loved ones in her home in Cibolo.

Monique was born in Poitiers, France, to parents, Léa and Charles. Her early life was marked by both loss and perseverance. Her father was killed in the French Underground during World War II. She was raised by her mother and later her stepfather, whose care and guidance helped shape the strong, compassionate woman she became.

Monique met and married the love of her life while Gene Kobes was stationed in France. She moved to the United States and started a family. This January would have marked their 65 years of marriage. During Gene’s service in the United States Army, they lived in numerous locations across the United States and Europe. During this time, Monique kept the home together during two deployments to Vietnam, faithfully supporting her family through seasons of separation and uncertainty. In every place they called home, she created an environment of steadiness, warmth, and welcome.

Monique lived a life defined by service and devotion to others. She worked as a nurse, approaching her profession with care and commitment. After retirement, she frequently served at the pregnancy center in Tallahassee, FL. She was the mother of two children, Thierry, who passed away in 2002, and Nathalie, who lived nearby in Texas and lovingly cared for Monique during the remaining years of her life.

Nathalie was Monique’s best friend and caregiver, sharing in coffee dates, shopping trips, and workouts at the Y. They even found a way to make doctors appointments fun by talking and laughing in the waiting room. Their relationship was one of deep trust and affection, and Nathalie’s care allowed Monique to remain at home, surrounded by comfort, dignity, and family, which was one of her greatest wishes.

Monique was deeply relational beyond her family, maintaining regular contact with friends from throughout her life, often through long and thoughtful phone conversations. She enjoyed French television, creating tapestries, and cooking for those she loved. Time spent playing Yahtzee with her grandchildren and visits with her lively great-grandchildren brought her particular joy.

A two-time cancer survivor, Monique faced illness with quiet strength and resolve, always putting the emphasis and attention on others. Her faith in the Lord was central to her life. Each day began with prayer and journaling, offering thanks for the new day and committing it to Him. She faithfully prayed each day for those she loved, holding family and friends close in prayer.

Monique is now reunited in heaven with her mother, Léa; her son, Thierry; and her sister., Claude. While her passing is deeply felt by those who loved her, her family takes comfort in knowing she is now at peace and free from pain. She is survived by her husband Gene, daughter, Nathalie; her grandchildren, Rachel, Nicole, Micah, and Christian; and her great-grandchildren, Genevieve, Charlotte, Thierry, and Chloe.

Monique Kobes lived a life marked by faith, service, and genuine love for others. Her presence will be deeply missed, and her memory will be held with gratitude and care by all who were shaped by her life.

“the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go" Joshua 1:9
