Melvin Hicks

September 29, 1940 — December 6, 2022

Melvin Gene Hicks, 82, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at his home in
Cibolo, Texas. He was born & raised in Decatur, Texas. He was the second son to
Archie Olney & Francis “Josephine” (Neely) Hicks born on September 29, 1940.
He went to Decatur High School and joined the US Navy in 1959. He was based out of
San Diego during the Vietnam war where he learned his craft as an electrician. After
being honorably discharged from the navy in January of 1963, Melvin went on to work
as a master electrician in Wise County. In mid 1964 he met the love of his life, Sandra
“Kay” (Clark) and they were married on September 16, 1964 in Ardmore, Oklahoma and
were married for over 56 years before Kay’s passing in May 2021. They began their
married life together in Decatur, Texas due to his work, they took the big move away
from family, moving south until finally landing in Cibolo, Texas in 1986. Melvin worked
for Randolph Air Force Base as an electrician until 1981 and then he was in the Civil
Engineering dept. at Randolph AFB until he retired in April 2007. He not only worked a
day job to care for his family he also worked a second job for most of his married life,
his last was with Wal-Mart until he retired from there as well, in April of 2020.
Throughout the years Melvin’s servant heart led him to participate on multiple
commissions and committees for the City of Cibolo, eventually he was elected as a City
Councilman and continued to serve on boards even after his term of office. He was a
hard working man, who loved his family and did everything he could to be sure they
were well cared for.
He and Kay were blessed with four children, Sonja L. (Hicks) Grissom, 57, Jessica A.
Hicks, 55, & husband Henry, Joel W. Hicks, 54, & Gabe S. Hicks, 51 & wife Ashley,
along with their “special daughter” Rachel (Hicks) Woody, 39 & husband Spencer. He
was also blessed with five more grandchildren, Lindsey L. (Shepherd) Calhoun, 35 &
husband Chris, Matthew J. Mosqueda, 31, Joshua A. Mosqueda, 28, Cody A. Hicks, 27,
& Jayden T. Hicks, 19. Along with 6 great-granddaughters, Monica M. Mosqueda, 14,
Lydiah F. Woody, 12, Peyton L. Calhoun, 12, Kylie R.Calhoun, 10, Lilly S. Woody, 10
and Violet N. Calhoun, 15. He also leaves behind his niece, Marie (Hicks) Young, a
great nephew, a great-great nephew, 2 great-great nieces, and many other family and
friends whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra “Kay” Clark Hicks, parents, Archie &
Josephine Hicks, his brother, Doug Hicks, Nephew, Douglas “Bubba” Hicks Jr., In-laws
Edgar & Winnie Clark & Great-Granddaughter Promise E Mosqueda.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Melvin on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 12
Noon at Everyday Christian Fellowship, 950 Everyday Way, Cibolo, Texas 78108 with a
reception to follow at a family member’s home in Cibolo.
Burial will be at a later date at the Greenwood Cemetery, in Greenwood, Texas, Wise
County next to his wife.
