Mary Cooley

Mary Lee Cooley passed away after a short illness, on December 31, 2021 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born January 22, 1935 in Harrisburg, IL to parents Roy Lee and Millie Sutton Chamberlain. Mary Lee graduated Harrisburg High School, class of 1953 before attending Southern Illinois University.

Mary Lee was preceded in death by husband Earl S. Cooley, Jr.; sons Earl S. Cooley III and Paul D. Cooley; parents Roy and Millie Chamberlain; sister Dorothy Joann Logsdon; brothers in law Edgar

Logsdon and Darrell (Randy) Cooley. She is survived by her daughter; Dorothy L. Cooley of Universal City, TX; granddaughters Shanna Carver of Schertz, TX, Leslie Douglas with husband Devin of Seguin, TX; sisters in law Therese (Terri) Svestka with husband Dennis of Marion, IA, Deborah Cooley of Katy, TX, Linda Cooley of Cedar Rapids, IA; niece Cheri Svestka of Eli, IA; nephews Steven Logsdon, PhD. with wife Debbie of Universal City, TX, Dave Logsdon with wife Harriet of San Antonio, TX, Gregory Svestka with wife Brenda of Shakopee, MN, Steven Svestka with wife Maya of Kansas City, MO, Rodney Cooley with wife Beckie of Cedar Rapids, IA and Timothy Cooley of Cedar Rapids, IA. Also, two great granddaughters, one great grandson, one great-great granddaughter, one great-great grandson along with many, many great and great-great grand nieces and nephews.

Mary Lee was loved and adored by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. She and her late husband Earl, married on March 16, 1954 and spent their life together, travelling with the US Army, being stationed in Boston, MA, Baumholder and Kaiserslautern, Germany, and El Paso, TX (among others) before retiring to Schertz, TX in 1973. They raised three children, who all graduated from Samuel Clemens High School in Schertz, TX.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or Meals on Wheels in your local community.

A Visitation will be held from 5:00PM  - 8:00PM on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. The Graveside Service will take place at 10:30AM on Monday, January 24, 2022 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
