Marvin Engler

April 5, 1918 — February 10, 2007

Marvin Wilhelm Engler, age 88, of Seguin, died February 10, 2007 at his home. He was born April 5, 1918 to Robert and Alma (Reimer) Engler. Marvin served his country in the United States Army during World War II, spending most of his time in a tank in Battery A of the 978th Field Artillery Battalion. He experienced tours of duty in the European Theater of Operations, and landed on Day 3 at Normandy. After returning from the war, he met Mary Allen and they were married on March 24, 1951. Marvin spent time working for Thompson Equipment in Seguin, the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority, and retired from Longhorn International in Austin in 1980 after 17 years of service. He was mechanically skilled and could build a Farmall tractor from parts. In his later years, he continued working on Farmall tractors, but also enjoyed gardening, his pecan trees, and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Louise (Specht) Engler; a sister, Elsie Heinemeyer; brothers, Leon, Roy, and Vincent Engler; and a daughter-in-law, Kay Engler. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mary L. (Allen) Engler; children, Jerry & Jan Engler of Austin and Seguin, Deborah & Beverly Kennedy of Denham Springs, Louisiana, and Danny & Mary Engler of Seguin; one sister, Melanie Engler of Seguin; a brother, Frank Engler and wife Bunny of Harlingen; grandchildren, Brad & Laura Bredesen, Jeremy & Monica Engler, Jason Engler, Mary Katherine Kennedy, David & Georgette Kennedy, Elizabeth Kennedy, Joanna Kennedy, and Daniel & Rhonda Engler; nine great grandchildren, Jonathan, Joshua, and Jacob Kennedy, Sabine and Mara Bredesen, Landry and Grayden Engler, Collin Wilhelm Engler, and Leo Engler. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at Cross United Church of Christ officiated by Rev. Jim Price and Jason Engler. A reception followed in the church fellowship hall. Private burial of ashes will be in the Engler Family Plot in San Geronimo Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Cross United Church of Christ, or to the charity of the donors choosing.
