Maria Jordan

April 2, 1935 — June 28, 2021

Maria Rosario “Charo” Jordan, age 86, from Valladolid, Spain went to be with the Lord peacefully and surrounded by family on June 28, 2021 at NE Methodist Hospital in Live Oak, Texas.

Maria was born in Valladolid, Spain to Jose and Rosario Rico on April 2, 1935. She earned an Associate Degree in Accounting from the School of Commerce in Valladolid, Spain. She would, later, also earn an Associate Degree in Management from San Antonio College. She worked for several years as an accountant/office manager in non-appropriated funds at several locations with the US Department of Defense in Europe and the US, and as an accountant/office manager for several private U.S. companies.

She was married to Jose Antonio Quintanilla, a member of the US Air Force, on October 8, 1960 in Madrid, Spain. They raised a son and three daughters among several US Air Force bases in the US and Europe over the span of her husband's 20 year military career. They were married until his death on January 6, 1982.

On April 4, 1987 she married Harvey Alfred Jordan, a Civil Service retiree, until his death on October 25, 2014. They lived in Schertz, Texas during their entire marriage. During this time, she was involved in volunteer work at NE Methodist Hospital, the Schertz library, and as a docent at the San Antonio Museum of Art.

In her younger years, she enjoyed drawing, reading, knitting, and crocheting. She found joy while traveling and spending time with her family. She also had a passion for dancing. She was a folk dancer in Spain, and, while in the US, was a square dancer, as well as a line dancer, ballroom, and country dancer with her second husband, Harvey, for over 20 years. In recent years, she enjoyed spending time at the Schertz Senior Center engaging in various activities, such as yoga, Zumba, and visiting with her friends at their “Spanish” table.

Maria is preceded in death by her parents and both husbands. She is survived by her son, Jose Carlos Quintanilla; daughter, Maria Luisa Quintanilla; daughter, Ana Maria McCrum and her husband Michael McCrum; daughter, Eva Patricia Nuñez and her husband Randy Nuñez; 10 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 12:00pm, July 7, 2021 at the Schertz Funeral Home with Michael McCrum, Reverend, officiating. A private burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Arrangements are with the Schertz Funeral Home.

The family of Maria Jordan wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all the doctors and nurses at NE Methodist Hospital for their amazing care and concern for our mother.
