Lydia Fernandez

July 13, 1940 — September 19, 2020

Lydia C. (Lile) Fernandez, 80 of San Antonio, TX was surrounded by her family when she went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 19,2020. She was born on July13,1940 in Bastrop, TX to her parents, Antonio J Coy and Maria Gutierrez.

Lydia shared fond memories of her childhood love of music, singing and dancing with her father, brothers and sisters. She also was an avid softball player sharing that love with her siblings. At age 18, she married the love of her life, Ricardo S Fernandez. They remained committed to each other for nearly 62 years. They bore 9 children during that time. In her adult years she held a few part-time jobs but caring for her family and being a housewife were her main priorities. As her children grew older she spent her free time gardening many of her favorite flowers including roses, birds of paradise, lilies, and cannas. She also quenched her competitive spirit by playing games of dominoes, throwing darts and cheering on her Spurs. Lydia and her husband, Ricardo became founding members of St. Helena’s Catholic Church in 1974 and remained faithful servants throughout her life.

Preceded in death by children: Mary Helen Ainsworth and sons-in-law John E Martin and Clayton A Ainsworth IV Siblings: Olivia C Saldivar; Juan (Johnny) Coy; Guillermo ( Willie) Coy; Lidio (Roy) Coy; Maria C (Mary) Rosales and Juanita C (Janie) Guerra

Survived by her spouse Ricardo S Fernandez, Sr. Surviving children: Teresa F Martin; Ricardo C Fernandez, Jr ( Julie A ); Gloria C Fernandez; Margaret F Vela ( Daniel); Alfredo C Fernandez ( Kim); Dolores F Marryott; Olivia A Fernandez; Gilbert C Fernandez. Also survived by 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren Sibling: Celia Barrientos ( Mike)

A private Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2020. The Rosary will be recited at 10:00AM on Friday, September 25, 2020 at St.Helena's Catholic Church with the Funeral Mass to follow at 10:30.  A private Interment will take place at Wetmore Community Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkinson’s Foundation
